The community of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska is reeling from the tragic news of a Catholic priest’s fatal stabbing. Reverend Stephen Gutgsell, who had served as the parish leader for 11 years, was attacked in the church rectory where he lived during a break-in early on Sunday morning. Despite being immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, the 65-year-old did not survive. The suspected burglar was apprehended by Washington County sheriff’s deputies, who arrived at the scene only six minutes after the priest had called 911.
